People always remark how well Jeremy is talking. I guess when your mom reportedly has verbal diarrhea, you can’t help but talk to keep up. I guess I just don’t realize how much I talk to him. He usually only says a small fraction of his vocabulary in front of others. If they only knew how many words he really has! When he’s with strangers, like my clinic members, he tends to trot out the popular, easy familiar words. Car, cat, miaow, flowers, and repeat them. Of course, he still babbles too.
He’s picking up new words very fast now. Anything you say can and will be repeated, if he so chooses. At last count, back on May 27th, he had 106 words, most of which were being used consistently. It was around that time I gave up counting. The excel list I made had 112 words.
Today, Grammy & Grampy took him to the local mall. Little Mr. was about to get into mischief, so Grammy called “Ken, help!” Jeremy decided it must be urgent, so he also called “Ken, help!” Grammy said they were lucky security didn’t get involved, as after that, the rascal would say “help!” every so often.
Help is not a new word for him. It’s proving to be a very powerful concept. Sometimes I can get him to do something he doesn’t want to, like holding my hand when we’re walking somewhere, when I say something silly like “Mommy doesn’t want to get lost, can you help me? Hold my hand.”
